What should I do if my story doesn't generate or fails?

If your story fails to generate or you encounter an error during story creation, please try the following steps:

Refresh the page and try again
Check your internet connection
Ensure all required fields are properly filled out
Try simplifying your story prompt or character descriptions

What if a gem is not refunded after a failed story?

In rare cases where a story generation fails and your gem (story credit) is not automatically refunded, please contact our support team immediately. We will investigate the issue and restore your gem if appropriate.

Best practices for generating a good story

To create the best possible personalized story for your child, follow these tips:

Be specific with character details: Include distinctive features like hair color, eye color, favorite clothing, and personality traits
Choose age-appropriate themes: Select story themes that match your child's interests and developmental stage
Add meaningful dedications: Personal messages make the story extra special
Keep descriptions clear and simple: Avoid overly complex or ambiguous descriptions
Use positive attributes: Focus on characteristics and scenarios that promote positive values

Prompts for additional details

When entering character information, consider adding these types of details for richer personalization:

Physical features: Hair length and style, eye color, skin tone, height
Favorite things: Favorite colors, animals, activities, or hobbies
Personality traits: Brave, curious, kind, adventurous, creative
Special interests: Dinosaurs, space, animals, sports, art, music
Unique characteristics: Freckles, glasses, curly hair, dimples

Photo & Image Guidelines

How to position selfies for best results

When uploading photos of your child for reference images in the story, follow these guidelines:

Face clearly visible: The child's face should be clearly visible and not obscured by hats, hands, or other objects
Front-facing view: Photos taken from the front work best for capturing facial features
Close-up shots: Head and shoulders photos are ideal - avoid full-body shots taken from far away
Neutral background: Simple backgrounds help the AI focus on the child's features
Show key features: Ensure distinctive features like eye color, hair style, and facial structure are clearly visible
Natural expression: Smiling or neutral expressions work well

Lighting tips for reference photos

Good lighting makes a significant difference in photo quality:

Natural light is best: Take photos in natural daylight when possible
Avoid harsh shadows: Don't take photos in direct sunlight or with strong overhead lighting
Face the light: Position the child facing toward the light source
Avoid backlighting: Don't take photos with bright light sources behind the child
Indoor lighting: If indoors, use soft, even lighting from multiple sources
No flash when possible: Flash can create harsh shadows and red-eye effects

Your privacy and uploaded images

🔒 Your photos are automatically deleted for privacy

When you upload a photo of your child, we use it to create a stylized illustrated character reference that matches our storybook art style. Once this illustrated reference is created, your original uploaded photo is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers.

What this means for you:

Enhanced privacy: We only retain the stylized, illustrated character reference — not your original photo
Automatic deletion: This happens immediately after the reference is created during story generation
No manual action needed: The deletion is automatic and requires nothing from you
Illustrated references used: The stylized reference images are used for all story scenes and any image regenerations
Complete cleanup: When you delete a story, all associated images (including illustrated references) are permanently removed

We designed this feature to protect your privacy while still delivering beautifully personalized stories. The illustrated references capture your child's key features in our signature storybook style, providing consistency throughout the story without storing your original photos.

AI Image Generation

Understanding AI-generated images

Our stories use advanced AI to generate custom illustrations. While the technology is impressive, it's important to understand:

Images may not be perfect: AI-generated images can sometimes have minor imperfections or unexpected elements
Artistic interpretation: The AI creates artistic representations based on your descriptions, which may differ from exact reality
Consistent style: All images in a story will follow a consistent artistic style for a cohesive reading experience
Character likeness: While the AI aims to capture key features, it creates stylized illustrations rather than photorealistic portraits

Image regeneration allowance

If you're not satisfied with any of the generated images in your story:

You have 20 image regenerations per story.

This allows you to regenerate individual images that don't meet your expectations. Simply select the image you'd like to regenerate, and the AI will create a new version with the same prompt. Each regeneration counts toward your 20-regeneration limit per story.

Use these regenerations to perfect your story's illustrations until you're happy with the final result. Most users find that one or two regenerations per image (if needed) are sufficient to achieve great results.
